Summary[]
Whitley is trying to plot her way out of her math midterm by faking illness when Kim learns her father Clinton (special guest star Richard Roundtree), a policeman, has been shot. Whitley, Dwayne and Freddie drop everything and rally together to get Kim to her father in the hospital. Once they arrive at the hospital, Freddie asks Kim what they can do to help. Kim asks Freddie to pray for her father.
After several hours of waiting and worrying, Kim is finally allowed to see her father. They share a tender moment during which Kim's father admits to having been too hard on Kim and she is able to tell her father she loves him. When Freddie goes to pray, she's at a loss. Not clear of her feelings about God, she's not sure how to speak to him.
After an awkward moment, Freddie simply speaks from her heart and asks God not to let Freddie's father die. Freddie later learns that Kim's father will live but may not walk and thinks God has played a cruel joke. It's a lesson in acceptance for Kim and, oddly enough, it's Dwayne's point of view on God that facilitates her deeper understanding.
