Summary Edit

Lena is not doing well enough to maintain her engineering scholarship. When Col. Taylor asks her why she chose engineering, she tells him it was only for the scholarship money. Her future at Hillman is in jeopardy until she writes a moving account of her father's life as a black panther for her journalism class. Lena wins a $5,000 scholarship award. As she accepts the award, her father shows up and blows her story. He's not a black panther, he's a gambler. Unable to continue the façade, Lena must accept her father for what he is. Lena's professor accepts her for what she is, an extremely creative writer. Also, Whitley shows up at a political fundraiser for Byron wearing a fur and he loses a substantial pledge of support from an animal rights activist.
